5 cards: past, break, their current state, likely movement, and outcome
In Lenormand, the return question is read through movement and change cards (Stork, Rider, Ship) contrasted with closure and loss cards (Coffin, Mice, Scythe). The Crossroads card is decisive: if it appears next to the person's card followed by Ring or Heart, there is possible movement toward reconciliation. If Crossroads appears next to Coffin or Mice, the direction is toward separation.
The most useful question is not "will they come back?" but "what emotional state are they in right now regarding me?" or "what movement is likely in the coming months regarding this relationship?" Asking about the current state gives actionable information; asking only about the future outcome leaves the reading without a reference frame.
Some combinations in Lenormand are clear closure signals: Coffin + Crossroads (the path ends), Scythe + Ring (the commitment is cut), Mice + Heart (the feeling is dissolving). Reinterpreting these combinations positively is not helpful — the honesty of the reading is what makes it valuable.
Lenormand can read the current tendency and the most likely movement. For specific timing, the Grand Tableau is most useful: cards in house 28 (Man) or 29 (Woman) and those surrounding them indicate the present state and future direction. No oracle guarantees exact dates, but it can point toward approach or departure.
Consulting repeatedly on the same topic in a short time tends to produce redundant or contradictory readings. The best practice is to wait at least a week between readings on the same matter, or to wait until something in the situation actually changes before asking again.
Yes. Moon (emotional thoughts), Heart (active feelings), and Letter (communication not yet sent) in the other person's position can indicate thoughts or intentions that are not being expressed. Book (secret, hidden things) reinforces this reading if it appears nearby.
